Thinking about a roommate

This has been an extremely expensive summer! Even with moving into a house for cheaper rent, I've still been searching for ways to cut back and increase my income. I live in a small community of about 2000 people, that is about an hour from a bigger city. Part time jobs are tough to come by, and would likely interfere with my full time job. I need to be available for night-time meetings, election days etc for my job. Plus it's DD's last year in high school, so I don't want to miss her basketball games either. For that reason, I've been giving some thought to taking in a roommate. I have an extra bedroom that could be cleaned out for someone. I've looked at Craig's list, but didn't see anything that would match. I'm just too far away from the university. I haven't talked to DD about this either. All very much in the thought process at the moment. I know enough about real estate law to know I have to be careful how I would word an ad anyway. I'd want a young woman, who was independent and drama-free. I'm not looking to take on another child.

I know Isys has gone through this, but I'm wondering about the rest of you? Any thoughts, suggestions? Pros/Cons. I need some idea of what I might be getting myself into.

Its worked out great in the past for me. I used CL & had a 48 yr old never married, single, professional woman for a year who was in a temp job here. She was great. Paid $600 a month.

There is also Coabode.com   for single moms to live together. You may want to take a peek at that too.

Good luck!

I think its a good idea. I would stay away from craigs list though. Too many wierdos on that site. Try the local paper.

After reviewing what was on CL in my area, I'm thinking you are right! Plus, I can't be discriminating on there, and I won't take in a man. I've put the word out with a friend of mine, who works with a local church and has connections with the county, so maybe, just maybe something will happen. I trust her to not send someone who can't be trusted alone in the house. I'm also going to look around at bulletin boards and the local paper. I looked at the website R recommended, but don't have room for more than one, and really would prefer to not have little kids around. I'm soooo past that. I've also been praying for a solution on my own, so hopefully something will pop for me.
