Hey everyone, was just reading some article on msnbc.com about high gas prices (I know what else is new?) anyway, the article was stating how people were canceling summer vacations due to high gas costs. My question is, in the event gas starts getting worse than it is now, say like how it is in Europe, (I think its like 5 bucks a LITER,) what is your plan B? Pretty soon its gonna cost like 50.00 to fill my tank and it I do that once a week, 200.00 at the end of the month! Its like another bill. More expensive than my monthly grocery bill, cell bill etc. Its depressing. Well, I got a raise yesterday. My raise at work was .38 more cents an hour. And gas seems to have been rising about a dollar a year, maybe even a 1.50 from this time last year, how do they expect us to keep up?!! My "plan B" is to get another job. I do not have a husband to rely on, nor do I ask for money from my parents. I'm thinking about getting a second job for the weekends. This depresses me. I do not WANT another job, or really "need" it, I just refuse to let myself begin to live paycheck to paycheck. On my days off I do NOT go anywhere. My car sits in the driveway the entire weekend. I am trying to preserve my gas, maybe try and prolong how many times I do need to fill up. It it means I have to sacrifice vacations and social outtings w/ friends, so be it. It's irritating, so many people complain, yet is there anything that can be done? I mean 50 dollars to fill up gas is ridiculous. WHen I graduated HS I remember it would cost me $10-12 to fill up. (and this was only 7 years ago in 2001, not back in 1976, lol)

Anyway, does anyone else have a plan B with the rising cost of say....EVERYTHING??

Gas always goes up in the summer. When October rolls around, I bet prices will be back to "normal"...we'll see right? I'm paying 4.75 a gallon right now. It sucks but it's manageable. Basically I try and run as many errands as possible while I'm out. When we go out with friends, we try and car pool if possible. I don't "fill up" my tank because then I have no where to go cause I'm broke lol. Boyfriend and I will not stop taking the boat out because of high gas prices. Life is too short, and I am not going to put my life on hold for something I have no control over anyway.

Oh, I didnt mean I'm going to "put my life on hold" I basically meant for now. Like I said, I dont have a "cushion" to rely on, such as  a husband or parent if times get hard. Its up to me to be responsible and not spend like crazy. Gas is a basic bare necessity so obviously I will buy it. Its just fustrating is all. I dont use credit cards and have NO debt, I've worked hard not to get there.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I have the summer off and there's no way I'm going to spend it sitting on my butt just because gas prices are expensive. Of course, I can cut costs by sub-letting my apartment and moving into the campground in Squamish for the summer. And Squamish is a small town, so I don't drive around much when I'm there. I might drive down to Vancouver though a couple times this summer on climbing rest-days. And my boyfriend and I are planning on going down to Yosemite to climb for a week mid-September. My family and a big group of family friends always goes to Yosemite in September. I've never been able to join them. It'll be expensive to get there, but again, my vacations tend to be relatively inexpensive since most of them involve camping rather than hotels and such, so I'm not going to let gas prices stop me! I'll find other ways to pinch pennies -- I'm would be miserable if I didn't take my frequent climbing trips.

Thats a good question. I'm not really sure what my plan B is. I guess its just not to drive as much. I don't go random places anymore like i used to. For example, i work 4 days a week and the other days i would go out to lunch, go to the mall, go to a movie, etc. with my sister. I don't really do this anymore.

It absolutely is crazy and I really don't think the prices are going to go down. Does anyone know the reason that gas has increased so quickly?
