Hi gem!
I know the situation you are in. My fiance and I considered doing an afternoon "tea" wedding and have a 1 or 2pm ceremony followed by the reception where we would serve finger sandwiches and such. This is a good option if everyone is local and its happening in the middle of the afternoon.
If you are having a lot of guests from out of town or you are going to have your reception around a main meal time I would HIGHLY recommend that you do an actual meal. Guests will be upset if they travel a long distance and then don't even get to enjoy a meal with you OR guests might come late or leave early as they will be out getting a meal somewhere else.
