Hi Ladies,

I need hair help LOL.
My natural hair color is a VERY dark brown, think dark chocolate, its straight, fine & 1/2 way down my back. Picture #1 is all natural.

I had a birthday in July & thought I needed to do something different with my hair. So I went to the store & got the hair color in picture #2. I thought it would be a nice color for summer. Step 1 is to put on the all over color, I did a test strand & didnt see any change so I just skipped step 1 & then did a test strand of the highlights, it turned orange!!!! So I called the salon I usually go to, went in & they gave me caramel highlights. It looked for for a while but now I'm over it.

Picture #3 is my hair as is today. I'm so tired of it. I want something new but have NO CLUE what I want. I want to be happy with my hair, I want to have glow of I know my hair looks good :)
So I'm counting on you ladies to give me some great advice.

Thanks bunches,
Pam
PS ~ Dont worry I'm not one of those ladies who posts & never checks back in, I'm on here almost all day.

Hi and welcome to the board! I have to say, I like the look in picture 3; the highlights they gave you look great to me. But I also understand wanting a change; I do that myself quite often! LOL

I'm guessing you want something lighter than your natural color? Are you planning on doing it yourself or going back to the salon? The reason I ask is because coloring over highlights can be tricky and with your dark natural color, if you're wanting to go more than just a couple of shades lighter all over, it means you'll have to lift your existing color and that can really get complicated.

If you're having trouble picturing yourself with different shades, you might want to try uploading your picture to our Makeover tool and playing around with that. You can try on different hairstyle and hair colors and maybe find the color that looks fabulous on you. My advice would be to then print it out and take it with you to the salon and talk to the colorist there. A face to face consultation plus giving the colorist something visual to work with can be a huge help in getting the end results you want.

The best of luck to you and please, do let us know what you decide and how it turns out! You have absolutely gorgeous hair and I'd love to see the final results! ;-)

Hello cmbren,

Picture #3 is my hair currently. I'm bored with it.
No I dont want to go lighter, I'm kinda thinking of going back to my natural hair color (VERY dark brown) and having some cranberry highlights added but I'm not positive. I dont want anything that looks fake ya know.
Thats why I was asking for other ideas.
I'll check out that make over tool & see if that gives me any ideas.

Pam :)

I really like your natural color; it's a very rich, deep tone and you wear it well. I know a lot of women who want something that looks natural but adds a special depth and dimension to their hair opt for a combination of highlights and lowlights. I'm not experienced with that myself, but I found a couple of articles that might help you. ;-)
