Finding the right hairstylist

I think I have finally found the right hairstylist which has taken me awhile to do.   I really like my color, highlights and cut.  The thing is I am going to be moving a half hour away and I'm unsure whether or not to stay with her or go to another stylist.  I had consultations with another stylist in the area I'm moving to and I found a great stylist there who is a little more pricey but I might be just as happy.  I just am afraid of not being as happy as I am now.

The other thing is with the current stylist, the one I am really happy with - I think I have annoied her by calling her too much- I have an obsession with my hair. I wonder if it's best to start fresh in a new salon.

I might do better with the male stylist instead of a female in the new town too.  Maybe I've answered my own question by deciding to switch to a new, male stylist in the town I'll be moving to. I just don't want to keep stylist hopping which is a habit I've got myself into.

Advice?

You might want to weigh the pros and cons....driving a half hour each way for satisfaction you know you'll get vs the time, energy (and emotion) you may have to invest in dealing with a new stylist who hasn't worked on your hair or color.

If the only thing making you uneasy about returning to your current stylist is that you're afraid you've annoyed her with calls, the next time you go in, explain the trouble you've gone through in the past before you finally found her. Let her know you value her input and advice but you realize you may have annoyed her and that you'll try to save your questions and concerns for when you have an appointment scheduled.

Good luck with your decision! ;-)

I think Bren has great advice. I adore my stylist, she's about 20 min away. I'd drive 2 hours to see her though. I have been seeing her for years and I'd trust her to do anything to my hair.

If your current stylist is really annoyed and acts like it or has told you, than she's not very professional. Now, if you're calling 10 times a day, then yeah... back down. ;) On the other hand, if you really need to call because you can't make your style work, maybe you have the wrong cut for you. One great way to show your appreciation for the extra time she spends w/ you is a bigger tip and even a nice little gift during the holidays. If you are just worried she's annoyed and she's always courteous and helpful, than she really probably isn't.

Let us know what you decide.

Thanks Cl little mascara- I appreciate both yours and cmbren's replies...

I have decided to see another stylist because I annoied her and because I'm moving to another town.  Plus I don't drive so it gets expensive paying someone to drive me.  I don't know that such a small salon was right for me, a little too intimate.  She gives out her cell number and email address and that blurs boundaries with me.

I think I've found another stylist, a male where I will feel less inclined to hug, and see a more experienced stylist in a town closer where I live in a bigger less intimate salon.

Thanks!

Amy
