Hi all....New here.  I have a question and I am going to give you some details so if you can help. I'd really appreciate it.

First, I am 40.  I have an oily t-zone and drier cheek area.  I am fair to light complected.  I have no wrinkles and occasionally break out with 1-2 pimples during my cycle.  I have large pores on my nose and cheeks.

I am looking for a really good foundation.  I prefer something matte but not a powder.  I tried BE, and Almay self adjusting foundations recently.  BE really does not work for me and I have tried it many ways.  I DO use a primer but looking for a foundation that will last, good coverage that I can adjust and not a powder.....I am willing to pay for it if its really good.

Also, can you go to make up counters at stores and get "samples" of their foundations...??  If so, maybe thats the way to go but which brand and type?

Thanks for your input.....

I use Guerlain Parure Gold right now. My skin is like yours, I am 39, and this makes my skin look flawless. A dept store can help with a lot of things, like application and if your skin care effects your foundation. Many skin products have mineral oil and will make even the best foundation start to look bad.

You can usually get samples, or just say you don't want to buy that day but prefer to see how it wears all day. You can always return products too, and try something else.

Foundation is something I just won't buy w/o trying, because you can't tell what it's like just by the bottle. If your foundation is off, everything is off.

I am currently testing Estee Lauder Nutritious Foundation. While it feels light on the skin but has great coverage and staying power, I'm afraid I may be just a bit too fair for their lightest color - which is a problem I have with many foundations, and the biggest reason I've used either custom blended foundations or no foundation at all lately. I've got gold undertones, but am extremely fair - a combination that appears to be virtually unknown to cosmetics companies, for some reason.
