It's my favorite time of the year, with plenty of holiday gatherings where we can glam it up! It can be awfully tempting to experiment with a new makeup look, but I've learned from experience to experiment well beforehand, to make sure I can get the results I want! There are some great expert tips here.

Have you ever had a last minute makeup malfunction right before (or during) a big night? Tell us about it!

I've learned never ever to put mascara on at the last minute! Last year, I realized I was out as I was getting ready for a party; I thought, ""No big deal, I'll pick some up on the way and brush it on before we go in."

Well, I forgot that the makeup mirror in the car is not Brenda friendly...it hates me! Darn thing picked that moment to snap shut (I swear it tried to bite me), hit the mascara brush and I had a lovely black streak from eye to chin! Try repairing that in the near dark! LOL

LOL Bren!!! For big parties, i kind of think ahead and give myself plenty of time. We go to one or 2 parties a year where we just get a hotel near the event, so I have to pack what I want out of my arsenal here. ;) I bring LOTS of stuff, because I don't want to have to race around at the last minute and look for emergency mascara or something. One time I used some glue on nails because I didn't want to get acrylics just for one night. I should have known better. halfway through the night I was missing 3 or 4 nails, so I just went into the bathroom and took them all off. I had nail glue with me, but the nails came off on the dance floor or something, so short of asking everyone to crawl around and look for my red pinkie nail, it wasn't gonna happen! My nails looked worse than if I had just left them alone.

I suggest if someone is planning to use something like nails like that, false lashes, etc and they don't usually use them, they do some trial run before hand to make sure they don't have a malfunction during the event. :D

Youch!

For big parties, I tend to just book an appointment with a make-up artist. It's easier, I am not stressed, and I know that I'll look good.

For more intimate parties with close friends, I usually just try to clean myself up and bit nicer than usual ;-)

Booking a makeup artist is a very good idea, especially if it's a big event; less stress getting ready makes it easier to relax and really enjoy!
