Hey all! I just recently got my ears pierced for the first time... tomorrow will be the one week mark. My left ear seems to be doing fine... it's only a tad sore when I touch it or clean it, and it's fairly easy to turn. My right ear, however, is sore when I touch it or clean it, but it's more sore than the left and it seems a bit harder to turn. It's not red or swollen looking though... should I be concerned?

Did you have them pierced by a true piercer or at someplace at the mall with a gun? Using a gun is very traumatic for tissue and can definitely cause the ears to take much longer to heal. The standard butterfly backed earrings that places like Claire's use are horrible for healing too, since crap gets trapped there.

The likely hood is that one side just heals faster than the other because you sleep on one side more or use the phone on one side more etc. A well done piercing takes several weeks to months to fully heal and can be sore for awhile.

Use sea salt soaks on them once or twice a day and don't play with them or move them unless you're cleaning them and they will heal faster.

Do not use hydrogen peroxide or any of those "solutions" the mall sells either. ;)
