I keep seeing news articles saying that many cities are going to bounce back and things are going to start looking up.  How is the economy in everyone's area?  Are you noticing more or less job opportunties than say, earlier in the year?

I'm in Northern California and things have definitely not bounced back here.  As far as I can tell things haven't gotten worse, but they're still pretty bad.  There are more jobs available, but they are part time with no benefits.  Sure that may work if you're a single person with no dependents and few expenses, but for a family that won't do much.  The few full time jobs available are being filled by people that are way overqualified and many of those don't come with benefits either.  The consensus here seems to be that the economy won't pick up for this area until late next year.

I'm in the Denver  Metro area, and in many ways, I think employment market is getting worse here (Denver tends to be slower than other cities in just about everything though, ha ha.)

I haven't seen a job to APPLY for in a couple of weeks.  It was weird because about about two months ago I was able to send out three resumes, and now, nothing.  Almost all of the job alerts I get are for very technical IT positions which are contract/temporary (and for which I am not qualified.)  A friend who works in a government office told me last night that they are going to move from one furlough day a month to two in January.  Many of my co-workers have had their hours cut so I really think it is getting worse here.

:(  I am so sorry to read your post.  It must be beyond frustrating to not have any jobs to even apply to.

It has to get better eventually though, right?  Let's hope it's soon.

A friend who has a management position in state government told me they have to take 2 weeks off without pay per year now.  They can split it up, but still it’s a cut in pay.  She has lost several staff member and not being able to replace them means everyone has to take on more work.
