If you are actively seeking a full time position, is it a good idea to reply to these type of job ads? I am concerned with the way the economy is, they could go part time after you were hired full time. Any thoughts?

I think that job seekers should keep a few things in mind:

There are no guarantees.

A full-time job can turn into a part-time job at anytime.

A part-time job can turn into a full-time job at anytime.

In this economy, finding ANY job is extremely difficult.

Many people are working 2 and 3 part-time jobs to make ends meet.

If a person has no financial worries, then s/he can afford to be picky.  Otherwise, take what you can get and keep looking for something better.

I hope than answers your question.

As ezviolin stated, no job is guaranteed anyway.  All you can do is tell them you want / need full time, and hope that it stays that way.  :(
