Hi ladies.

My name is Danielle and my wedding is next Friday October 23rd. Which brings me to what I need help with: What is the traditional order of stuff after the ceremony? For example: cake cuttting, then first dance, then father daughter, etc. I have absolutely no clue because I've been to very few weddings and the ones I did attend is when I was younger so I don't really remember much.  Any help, advice, and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Danielle

Hi Danielle, welcome to the board! Congrats on your up coming wedding. You must be so excited.

I'm not really sticking with traditional timelines, but usually, the reception sort of goes like this.

The guests arrive, cocktail hour begins (or tea and coffee are served/offered) Then the bride and groom arrive. Dinner begins (if you're doing that) You can go really formal, and have all your guests be seated first, then have your bridal party and yourselves announced as you take your seats, but this is usually done if dinner is in a different room. Toasts usually come near the end of dinner, or after everyone is done eating. Toasts are followed by the first dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance. and so on. A little while later comes the cake cutting. And finally, when it's getting close to the time when you and your DH are getting ready to leave, you toss the bouquet, he tosses the garter, and you're off. That's just sort of a rough idea. The links below will take you to websites with different reception time lines, complete with how long you should plan for each activity. (these are just guidelines, you might want to skip some things, or give more time for others)

You may notice they're all a little different. There is no one right way to do things, there is no right order to things, you can do things anyway you want!

I hope this helps. Congratulations again, and all the best on the 23rd, and all the days after that!
