What will you do with your wedding dress after your big day? Will you put it in a bag/box and leave it hang in your closet for years, sell it in hopes to make a few dollars back, donate it to charity, have it cut shorter so you can wear it again...............
The reason I ask is because I dont know what to do with my dress. Its a beautiful sheath gown with spaghetti straps & a small cluster of rhinestones in the center of the bust area.
Everybody tells me that I should have it cut to knee length so I can wear it again. The only time I think I would ever wear it again would be on our anniversary (Valentines day).
What do you think?
What are you going to do with your dress???

My dress is already going to be a shorter length, between the half way point of my calves and my ankles, so I was planning on having it dyed a light pink, it's a very plain dress so no beading to worry about, so that I could wear it again. Probably to the formal gala fundraiser they do at my job.

Hi chousttenana.

Thats an awsome idea!!!

Did you plan ahead when you went dress shopping to get a dress that you knew you would be able to wear again or did it just happen to work out that way?
Personally I didnt plan to get something that I'd wear again. I knew I wanted a sheath, something simple (not fu-fu) & elegant! It just so happens that it would make a nice party dress!

I really want to do something with my dress. I think I'll have it cut down to knee length so I can wear it again. My Grandmother has been nagging me to do it, shes getting old & I'd like to honor her wish.
I also think it would be nice to be able to surprise my husband and wear the dress again on our anniversary (-:
My neighbor can sew ANYTHING (wedding gowns from scratch, childrens clothing, whole bedding sets, curtains, you name it) so I'm going to ask her to alter it for me.  Shes been teaching me to sew but my wedding gown isnt something I want to take on yet LOL.

I did actually go out looking for a dress that could be used again! I'm a very frugal New Englander, and the thought of spending hundreds of dollars on a dress that would only be worn once just didn't sit well with me, plus my wedding is going to be outside in a landscaped garden, so a long dress with a train really didn't make sense either, so I went for a kicky, cute dress! And I figured it would be easier to dye it a lighter color, like pink, rather than try to get a uniform dark color. That's awesome that you know someone who can alter the dress for you. My wedding dress is being made from scratch for me (it's a rip off of a much more expensive design, but I don't really feel bad about it, since the expensive design was clearly ripped off from the dress Givenchy designed for Audrey Hepburn to wear in a movie) and I can't wait until it's finished!

An Audrey Hepburn dress? Would that be the black one, tight waist, A line skirt???
I love that one.
I didnt have a budget when it came to my dress, as a matter of fact I wasn't even dress shopping at the point but I was driving down the road 1 afternoon & saw a dress shop, thought what the heck I'll stop in. Would you believe I found "the dress".
And to top things off it was on the close out rack for $99.00, it fit me PERFECT, needed no alterations, it was almost too good to be true!!! And it was NOT Davids bridal LOL.
Yeah my neighbor is on her way back from MI as I speak so once she gets settled in I'll ask her to alter the dress for me. I know she would do the same thing as an alterations shop, the only difference would be $100!
