Hi,

I would love to get some opinions about this.

I have a wedding website on "The Knot" and they have this option to send pretty e-mail Save the Date cards.

Tacky or Not?

Thanks!
Jen

I am not old, but I am old school. I like the wedding stuffs printed on real paper send in the real mail.  I am also not a big fan of the wedding sites, but really I have only seen one. My sil has one for her wedding. Through the site we have learned TMI details on their first date, proposal, and plans for a family. We have seen her dress, the bridesmaid dresses, what the men are wearing, the cake, everything. So what is left? Oh yeah, the 20 min long ceremony and of course, me giving her the gift. I think her site tells too much. I do think a website that has the location, area hotels, directions, a contact address and info for where to send gifts and where they are registered is a very good idea.

Maybe I am just too old school.  If you want to do the website then do it. Just make sure that you get those who don't do technology a real note in the mail.  A good person to ask would be your future mil - see what she thinks about it.

I DO however like the save the date stuff. My mother is more old school than I am and she doesn't like those b/c of etiquette but I actually do b/c people are busy and if you have to travel theya re essential anymore if you have to fly to get a good rate (best rates are made 6 mo in adv.)

Let us know what you decide. Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear.

Hi and welcome!

Actually, I'm not opposed to doing e-mail STDs.  I think post card ones are better but save the dates are really a more modern invention anyway so if you'd like to e-mail, go for it.  I agree that you'll need to do something for the people who do not have e-mail addresses who should also get the information.

As for a wedding website.  I think as long as you keep in mind that the information is public- or at least public to the people attending your wedding then there shouldn't be an issue.  It was the perfect way for DH and I to share travel information, event information, etc.  I have not seen anyway put the level of detail (the dress and cake?!?!) on their website as the OP and that's definitely not typical, nor recommended.  A cute bit about how you met (if appropriate to share) is totally fine and a way to share a bit more about yourself with your guests.  Just keep in mind who will be viewing the site when you decide what to share.

Good luck!

Melissa

I don't think that email save the dates are tacky, but I also don't think that they are all that memorable. There are so many creative ideas out there, for example: Save The Date Scratch offs, or photo booth pictures, puzzles, magnets....the ideas are endless!!

I thought for SURE I replied to this thread again...but alas I don't see it. I guess my computer hiccuped again! :-)

I went with my gut and ordered Save the Date cards tonight. I was on the fence about the online thing, but I figured since not everyone is online, I would be confused about who I contacted which way.

Plus I got some cute "ticket" save the dates. I thought tickets might be more appropriate for invitations but I already have something in mind for that.

Thanks!!
Jen
