What factors are you playing with for Date, Dress, Guest List, family quirks or traditions etc??

Me: DF and I are trying for baby #1 - we're both older (I'm 35 and he's 43) and figure we'd be better not to loose time waiting for the marriage before trying, and then find out we've left it too late (after tests a couple of years back, I already know I'm on a limited time-frame). As such, pregnancy is factoring in on the date choice and probably dress designs - I'll need something that is a bit more flexible when it comes to weight loss - I would prefer NOT to be a 'bride with a bump' (can't have as much fun at the wedding reception!!) - but if that's the way it works, I accept it. Hopefully I don't need to factor that, but in currently needs to be on the radar.

If we're lucky by the end of the year, bubba would be about 8-10 months by a late May 2011 wedding date.

I wish you both best of luck while TTC. I hope it all works out as you want.

We've had a quite a few things affect the choice of our date. But I think the new date we picked will be the one we stick with, at this point I really don't care if we get married in jeans and t-shirts, I just want to get married, so this time there is NO changing the date.

Another big factor for us, is that all our friends and family live about 12 hours from us, and where we live the hotels do not have an off season. (Seriously, they would not even give me a deal when I called to book a block of 20 rooms, because as ALL the hotels here told me, they can easily fill those room all year round at their regular rates) So, we've decided to go back to my hometown for the wedding. It's much easier for us a few others to travel there, than it is for EVERYONE to travel here. It's not too bad, because I know so many different places back home to get married, there were lots of places I always wanted to get married at, and so, in a way it worked out best all way around.

One other thing affecting the planning of the wedding, is the fact that we picked the day before Thanksgiving to have the wedding, so we're not sure if we're going to combine the holiday and the wedding, and do a big turkey dinner for the reception, or if we'll have an earlier ceremony and do just cake and nibblies and coffee and tea for the reception, we're just not sure. I'm going to talk to my Mom and Dad about that a little more, see what they think. I personally like the idea of doing a big dinner, especially since, mainly family are coming to the wedding, with only a few friends on the guest list, it kind of makes sense, but I don't want to offend anyone either. It's difficult to decide. Of course, the cost of everything could decide that for us. lol

Other than that, we're keeping things simple, and sort of tailoring everything to our likes. I'm making story books for programs, and I guess you would say I'm writing our fairy tale. My bouquet is going to be flowers tied to a book, and we're thinking of putting our favors in coffee mugs along with a single serving of coffee (DF is a coffee freak!! lol) But everything is going to be fairly casual, we want it to be a time for everyone to visit and get caught up, and neither of us are really partiers, so we're hoping for a laid back reception too.

HI Kerryl,

I have seen you on NQE too!

Just saw this post about you TTC before the wedding. My DF and I have just recently decided to do the same. He did want spring of 2011, but I wanted more time to loose the extra weight and we have always wanted a fall wedding.

I am 36 and will be 37 in Dec. My OB told me the sooner I start trying the better because of my age and I am a high risk. I have only told one other person and posted it on NQE & here. So I am afraid I might get slack for TTC before the wedding..So I am just happy someone else is going through this too.

Thankfully they make wedding dresses w/the empire waistlines... just in case!

Good luck!!!

Cara

Yeahh - a buddy!!  Congrats on making the decision to TTC.   I'm testing for cycle two tomorrow morning.

DF and I agree that our 'project' is more important than our 'event' right now, based on our ages.

Our date is our winter (June 4 2011 is our anticipated wedding date at this stage).  A bit longer to loose any weight would be nice, but I suffer HORRIBLE allergies in spring and I AM NOT having puffy red eyes and a raw nose in my photos!!!

TTC also played into our wedding, but we knew we wanted to be married before baby came. We would like a girl and if we don't have a girl on the first try we would opt for a 2nd try, otherwise we just want the one. That being said DF knew I wanted the baby before I was 35, I will be 32 in December, so when we first first talking about getting engaged etc we planned on being married so that hopefully we can conceive #1 while I am 32 or 33 (it took me over 6 months to conceive DS and I was 26 then) and then possibly TTC#2 when I am 34 or 35. But only time will tell.
