Like many of us on this board, wedding planning is something I've had on the brain (slightly!). I've been tempted, lately, to purchase one of the bridal magazines I've been seeing at Target. However, part of me is holding back, because I don't want to buy one until I have the ring on my finger. That being said, I remember one summer, my college friends bought a bunch of them, just for fun.
So, my questions for you...
1) Have you ever bought a bridal magazine?
2) If so, which ones do you like the best? Or, if you look at certain websites, which ones are your favorites?
3) Has your SO seen the magazines? What are his thoughts on them?
**Disclaimer: I am a (slightly reformed) magazine FREAK! I LOVE THEM! Health & Fitness magazines, dance magazines, smutty women's magazines like Cosmo, all the teens ones when I was younger, cooking, crafting, celebrity gossip, Psychology Today, love them all! I used to buy them like crazy and cut myself off a year or so ago because I was "wasting" so much money. **
Now on to the actual questions! :)
1) Have you ever bought a bridal magazine? I never have! I only started really noticing them and then flipping through them in stores within the last year or so. I look at them in stores, really look at them in detail in a bookstore like Borders, but I am always ALONE when I do this, and I feel like it's a dirty secret, lol! :) I've only done the Borders thing (flipping through a whole stack by myself) like 2 times and I was so paranoid the whole time someone would see me and go "What are you doing? Are you getting married?" :)
2) If so, which ones do you like the best? Or, if you look at certain websites, which ones are your favorites? MARTHA STEWART!!! :) And REAL SIMPLE Weddings!!! I love the non-wedding issues of those magazines too though. I've also looked at the Knot's. I don't know the names of any others. Most of them are just ads, ads, ads, but I do like looking for ideas, pretty things, DIY instructions, etc.
3) Has your SO seen the magazines? What are his thoughts on them? They are not on his radar at all, lol. He could care less right now. He does know I love magazines and will occassionally surprise me with one as a treat. :) When we are actually planning a wedding I bet he'll flip through some mags and browse some websites with me.
You better believe when we get engaged I am going out and buying at LEAST one magazine as a celebration!!! :) Or at least spreading out with all of them at Borders, hoping and praying someone notices and says "Are you getting married?" so I can squeal "Yesss! Yes I am!!!" :)
1) Have you ever bought a bridal magazine?
---> I've bought one. After B brought up ring shopping, and the hope of us being engaged by the end of the year, my BFF went all 'gotta-start-looking-at-stuff' crazy on me, lol. She bought one, and then another friend of mine has given me another.
2) If so, which ones do you like the best? Or, if you look at certain websites, which ones are your favorites?
---> I picked the Martha weddings one, but felt stupid, afterwards.. I could just look online for stuff. I never really stick to certain websites to look at, though.. basically I'll google ideas, and go from there.
3) Has your SO seen the magazines? What are his thoughts on them?
---> B saw the one mag that my friend gave me (on a whim.. we were waiting for a restaurant to open, and it just so happened to have a bridal salon next door.. blah, blah, blah), but didn't say anything. I freaked out, though, saying it wasn't meant to pressure him, and that my friend grabbed it, and he just laughed at my ridiculousness. I think he's pretty lax about it, to be honest.. it's inevitable that we're getting married, it's just the when.
I have never bought a wedding magazine, although I sometimes do look at them longingly. I just feel like it'll jinx me or something. I would rather wait until I am actually engaged so I don't feel so crazy. Plus it's just a lot of advertisments. I don't think SO would be very happy if he saw any wedding magazines laying around. He already thinks I'm "out of control" because I go on this board.
I have never bought a wedding magazine. I feel the same as you, Elyse. I know my buying a magazine won't change SO's decision to propose but I still feel like I'd be jinxing myself in some way if I did. I don't think he'd care, but he would probably make fun of me and give me one of 'those' looks. Once he does propose I definetely want to buy at least one just for fun! I also feel like if I did buy one now it would make it less special when the time actually came for me to 'need' a wedding magazine. I still look longingly at them while in line at the grocery store though and frantically try to read the headlines before I have to check out ;)
